Director of Product Development

Summary of Position

Responsible for leading the department that develops all new products for Cambridge Engineering, and its affiliated companies. This includes the development and growth of the Cambridge Engineering and affiliates product portfolio to ensure the long term growth of Cambridge Engineering by developing quality, innovative, cost effective and reliable products

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in company strategic planning activity and be able to appropriately leverage resources.
  • Determine and recommend priorities for the development of new products by using financial analysis tools.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and ensure compliance
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with appropriate internal and external resources and partners
  • Develop people within the department and align priorities to the Company Strategic Mission.
  • Interview customers and sales reps to assess opportunities, risks and competitive landscape
  • Work closely with sales, marketing and manufacturing management to capture new business, extend existing customer relationships and acquire further information for product enhancements, features and pricing
  • Provide backup for the Operations Engineering Department, as required
  • Assist the Operations Engineering group to transition all new products into production
  • Supervise Product Development Test Lab – coordinate lab technician activities to cover requirements of Product Development
  • Obtain Certification Agency approvals for all new products
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Engineering degree
  • Ten (10) years project management experience
  • Five (5) years experience directly supervising Design Engineer Team
  • Proven track record of developing new products, preferably in the area of Commercial Heating
  • Specific knowledge of combustion theory and expertise in commercial burner development a plus
